Located within Dublin's docklands, City Quays is a contemporary commercial development combining modern architecture with a carefully considered selection of tile finishes. The project features a varied material palette across its bathrooms and interior spaces, with different colours, formats and finishes selected to create distinct yet cohesive areas throughout the building.
XO Tile supplied a range of porcelain and stone-inspired surfaces for the project, combining understated neutral finishes with more distinctive textures and patterns.
The bathrooms feature Plain White in a 300 × 600 mm format, providing a clean and understated foundation for the spaces. The simple white finish creates a bright, contemporary backdrop while allowing the more distinctive tile selections to provide contrast and character.
Marvel Stone and Carrara introduce refined stone-inspired finishes, bringing subtle tonal variation and natural movement to the interior. These surfaces provide a sophisticated material quality while complementing the contemporary architecture of the development.
The range of different formats and finishes allows the individual areas of City Quays to have their own character while maintaining a consistent overall design language.
The use of mosaic and hexagonal formats adds smaller-scale detail to selected areas, creating texture and interest across the tiled surfaces. Lappato finishes provide an additional layer of subtle variation, while Brave Grey and Golden Age Grey introduce darker tones that balance the lighter elements of the scheme. Together, the different materials create a layered interior palette that combines practicality with a refined contemporary aesthetic.
The completed City Quays project demonstrates how a varied tile specification can bring depth and character to a contemporary commercial environment. The result is a sophisticated commercial interior where carefully selected tile surfaces provide both practical performance and visual character, complementing the clean lines and contemporary design of the wider development.
